365 Days to Change Into a Better Me

by Phil Starn on February 4, 2010

The last couple of years of my personal life have been pretty rough. On New Year’s Eve this year, I decided it was time to make a change for the better. I took the first New Year’s resolution that I intended to keep ever.

I recently wrote about 30-days challenges and how they can help you make big changes in your life, and how they can spice it up a little bit by giving you new things to try. My resolution revolves around them.

This year, I’m going to perform 12 thirty days challenges, one for each month.

And of course I intend to share my results with you.

Here’s how this is going to work

Every month, I’ll create a new blog post for the next challenge. In this post, I’ll describe what I’m supposed to do every day, make up the rules of the challenge, and explain how I think I will benefit from it.

I will update that post throughout the month as I go along with the challenge. I’ll talk about the difficulties I encounter and how the changes are affecting my life. I will also add a link to it in the sidebar so anyone can easily refer to it anytime. Feel free to follow along and tell me how you think I’m doing with the challenge.

I’m already more than halfway through my first 30-days challenge of this year, which is to become an early riser. I had to start the challenge a bit late in January because I was traveling.

Since I travel a lot, and because I sometimes get big periods of overtime in my career, I might have to overlap the challenges a little bit and I might have periods where I won’t be doing any. I might even have to stop in the middle of one if I realize it doesn’t fit my lifestyle.

But it’s not against the rules, as long as I complete, successfully or not, 12 30-days challenges in 2010.

Why am I doing this?

1. My objective is to work on my person actively. I want to give myself challenges that will help me grow and conquer my fears and worries.

2. I want to try new things. I want to get out of the routine.

3. I also want to stop thinking about doing something and actually start doing it.

It’s as simple as that!

I realize that some of my challenges will seem mundane to some of you. I’m not going to climb the Everest or turn my whole life upside down. I will be doing small challenges that I think will be helping me, and hopefully you can learn from my experience and maybe get ideas for 30-days challenges of your own.

I’ll post my first 30-days challenge, which is to become an early riser, in a few days. Stay tuned!

Wow! Great idea, Phil

I’m definitely going to be tracking you on your challenges and wish you nothing but success. It will be very interesting to read about your monthly challenges – as you know I just had my own 31 Just For Today Challenge which was hard enough to get through, but going through 12 of them over the course of a year will certainly be something that you can be very proud of.

I can only imagine the impact on your life. You’ve certainly raised the bar!

What kind of changes are you thinking of going through this year?

Thanks for your encouraging words Karen :)

I have a couple of changes I want to make this year but I haven’t determined how I’m going to convert them into 30 days challenges yet.

I will be working on my mindset and social skills first, then move on to something more physical. At least one challenge will involve running, that’s for sure!

That will be a great start, Phil.

Working on your mindset and social skills will impact so much of your life that it makes sense to work on them first.

Good luck!

Karen

One of the changes that you must do, is keeping touch with your close as pretty far friends!!! And not wait that they always writte for you… Friendship must be mutual….

Huges :)

You are absolutely right Mariela. In fact, I will have a challenge dedicated to doing just that, keeping in touch with my friends. As you can see, I suck at it badly.

It’s very nice to see you here. I’m really glad you came by. :)

The greatest achievement one can have is self-improvement. I’m glad you have made such decision for yourself. To tell the truth, only few ever face the challenge of facing one’s self. :-)

Hi and welcome Walter! Thank you for your encouraging words. I can’t agree with you more. Facing myself is probably the biggest challenge I have faced in my life. :)
